What To Shop for…Go-To styles for your Body Type.

There are basically 6 different body types:


1. Inverted Triangle
2. Rectangle/Straight
3. Hourglass
4. Apple/Round
5. Pear
6. Neat Hourglass/Figure Eight 

Knowing how to dress your best depends on knowing your body type. When you determine which shape you are, you will know where to accentuate and what to avoid.

Fit is the key to looking and feeling fabulous!

The Inverted Triangle

 

Inverted Triangle Traits:
1. Shoulders are broad and wider than hips. You often wear a bigger size on top.
2. There is little definition between the waist and hips.
3. Weight gain goes to midriff.
4. Tush and hips are flat.

Go-To Tips:
1. Your body is bigger on top, so you need to accentuate your hips and bottom to create balance.
2. Keep the top half clean and simple, add details to the bottom half. Dress in clean lines, avoid large bulky clothing. Fitted jackets work well as do belts on the waist.

The Rectangle

 

Rectangle Traits:
1. Hips and shoulders are in line with each other.
2. Small bust with minimal waist definition.
3. Body shape is straight up and down.


Go-To Tips:
1. Wear details at the bust-line.
2. Textures and layering can create an impression of curves.
3. Emphasize the waistline while keeping the upper and lower lines straight.
4. Accentuate the bottom and hips by color blocking or layering.
5. Add shoulder pads to broaden the shoulder line.

The Hourglass

You have a balanced body with your top half in proportion to your bottom half. The bust and hips are in proportion to each other

 

Hourglass Traits:
1. Typically, the bust is fuller, shoulders are broad and the waist is small.
2. Your legs are an attribute.
3. You have a well-defined waist.
4. Hips tend to be rounded and the bottom is curvy.


Go-To Tips:
1. Wear wrap dresses, tops, or sweaters, that bring a draping or softness to the waistline.
2. Bring attention to the face and neck by wearing open collars, v-necks, round necks, and larger, more prominent earrings.
3. Your best skirt & dress lengths are mid to bottom of knee.

The Apple

Apple Traits:
1. Weight is usually above the hips.
2. Very little waist definition.
3. A wider torso and tummy area.
4. Bust is usually average to large.
5. Shoulders are typically rounder and broader than the hips.



Go-To Tips:
You want to create the illusion of a longer and lean torso. Keep clothing lines straight.
1. Pants with a wider straight leg, flat front (no pockets and dark jeans work well.
2. Accessorize with long necklaces, earrings or scarves to pull the eye down.
3. Heavier shoes work well, i.e., wedges, booties with a block heel and platforms.
4. Color block on top with neutral colors on the tummy area.

The Pear

Shape and Balance is key.

 

Pear Traits:
1. This shape usually is slim on top, has larger hips and or heavy legs. Weight is often carried in the hips and thigh area.
2. Hips are wider than the shoulders.
3. Proportionally a slender neck.
4. Clearly defined waistline.



Go-To Tips:
1. Emphasize the waist and middle section by wearing Wrap styles and A-line dresses.
2. Draw attention to the face and neck by wearing wider necklines.
3. Wear light or bright colors on top and darker colors on the bottom half to slenderize the bottom of the torso.

Neat Hourglass / Figure Eight

 

Neat Hourglass/FigureEight Traits:
1. Curvy with a high hip shelf.
2. Shapely bust-line.
3. Slim lower arms and slim legs.
4. Body shape is between hourglass & rectangle.



Go-To Tips:
1. Define the middle section and waist area.
2. Bring attention to the shoulders, face, neck, and arms.
3. Minimize the upper torso with open necklines and cross over styling.
4. Break up colors on the top and bottom of your silhouette to create balance.
