Ready for a Refresh?

Is your closet as "over" winter as you are?

If you're like me, you're bored to tears with your winter wardrobe and looking forward to the new styles of spring - even though it's still too cold to wear them.

"Wardrobe Fatigue" is real! One sure way to banish it, is to ignore the fact that there's still snow on the ground and start freshening up your closet.

I'm a big fan of shopping smarter.

Before you buy a thing, do a quick inventory of what's in your closet. Try on your wardrobe staples to make sure they're not outdated or unflattering. Get rid of things that make you feel less than your best, then make a list of the pieces you need. This might be the time to invest in a new blazer, a fabulous pair of shoes, or some on-trend accessories.

These 5 Spring Must-Haves will give your look a lift right now!

Statement-Making Shoes & Sandals

After two seasons of stay-at-home casual, shoes are making a statement. Strappy, clunky, and colorful are the buzzwords this spring. Chunky leather sandals like these from Jil Sander will be everywhere, often trimmed with buckles, cross-over straps, and rubber soles.

The '70s are back - and so are platforms! Some of the freshest are in patent leather in candy-like shades of pink and orange. Clogs are also trending - from classic studded leather to shearing-trimmed suede and (of course) high-rise platforms. However, designers know we want comfort as well as style, so everyone from Christian Dior to Chloe is offering easy, walkable sandals and flats. I'm loving these square-toed ballet flats!

The Blazer - Elevated

I've always stressed the importance of investing in wardrobe essentials that you can wear for years to come. This season's must-have: the not-so-basic blazer. With its seeking styling, sophisticated details, and gorgeous colors, it's perfect for pairing with pants, skirts, and dresses to go from the office to an evening out.

This bright blue blazer from Attico has a modern look with its round neck, front hook, and eye fastening. Cinq á Sept's "Khloe" blazer has a relaxed silhouette and ruched three-quarter sleeves. And Dolce & Gabbana, but with their signature spin on the classic single-breasted blazer, by adding breezy split sides and contrast button closures.

Handbags Go Big

The biggest trend in bags is - well - BIG! Forget stuffy leather folios and totes - designers are crazy for cozy, roomy, shoulder bags large enough to hold back-to-work or out-all-day essentials! Larger items such as your laptop, water bottle, and sneakers, or smaller essentials, like your wallet, phone, and lip balm!

Fans of structure will still find plenty of options - from fresh, colorful takes on the baguette bag (like Coach's timeless Tabby 26) to fanciful bucket bags from favorites like Tory Burch and Michael Kors.

Accessories: The Bolder, The Better

Adding a few new accessories is the easiest way to refresh your wardrobe - and this spring, dainty and conservative has been replaced by chunky and bold. Create a focal point with a pair of dangly earrings or layered necklaces.

Try mixing last year's chain links with a textured collar necklace and pearls, another hot trend! For an instant style update, pick up a pair of oversized sunglasses inspired by Balenciaga's bug-eye shape or Acne Studios '60s inspired specs.

Sustainability is in Fashion

Designer Stella McCartney has been setting an example of how the fashion world can embrace sustainability - and others are beginning to follow her lead. Sustainable fabrics and materials are cropping up in shoes and accessories.

There is also a push to avoid excess waste and stop adding to our landfills. Buying fewer, better things, is one way we can all make a difference!
