13 Reasons You Might Need a Stylist…

Don’t you love a good Top 10 list? I personally love them. I read them all the time. And it got me thinking about my job as a personal stylist.

When you think about hiring a personal stylist, what thoughts come to mind? Does it sound fancy and extravagant to think about having someone help you with picking out clothes? Like something that only the rich and famous would do? I hear that often, but a personal stylist can benefit anyone – including you - especially if you’ve ever found yourself saying one (or more) of these 13 things (Yes, my list has more than 10 things on it!):

  1. I don’t have anything to wear.

  2. I’m not sure how this looks on me.

  3. I’m not sure if this fits me.

  4. I’m not sure this is even in style anymore.

  5. Is this too young (too old) for me?

  6. I walk in and out of stores and don’t know what to buy.

  7. I feel like I’m totally lacking in style.

  8. I need something to wear TONIGHT!

  9. I can’t believe I have so many clothes with tags on them that I’ve never worn.

  10. What was I thinking when I bought this?

  11. How do I recreate that look?

  12. I wish I’d worn something else today.

  13. Why is getting dressed such a chore for me?

While all of these things may be problems you face with your wardrobe or style on a daily basis, they don’t have to be. This is where a personal stylist can help you. Just as you value the skills that a plumber or contractor brings to you as an expert in their respective fields, a personal stylist does the same. Yes, it’s an investment of time and money, but it’s an investment in yourself. And the benefits far outweigh the cost.

I have a client who is a manager at a public relations firm. She came to me with a problem that you can probably understand. She wanted a look that was more updated, comfortable, and stylish but at the same time was representative of her position as a manager. But, like so many people, she didn’t know how to achieve this. So what did she do? She hired an expert to achieve her goals. I helped her create the look she desired that allowed her to feel confident and empowered.

She believed, as I believe, that the right personal stylist can:

  • Bring the right results in terms of style and budget by bringing out the best in you

  • Help define what you really like and why

  • Teach you strategies to shop that allow you to focus on needs vs. wants

  • Show you how to create many different outfits based on what you buy and what you currently own

  • Save you money by teaching you to buy what you love and not shop based on sales or price

  • Help decide what things you should keep, what needs tailoring, or what needs to go

If you are saying to yourself, “I’d love to experience these things,” then it’s time to find a stylist.

So, now that you can see the value in hiring a stylist, you’re probably wondering how you go about connecting with the one that’s right for you. And, this may be a bit trickier.
As a stylist, I believe you need someone who “gets you.” This is truly a huge difference I see among stylists. Some stylists will try to force their ideas upon you or suggest trendy items that really aren’t going to develop your sense of style. But when it comes to hiring a personal stylist to help you, think about these things:

  • Do you like the stylist’s look? Are they stylish? Or are they too fashionable and trendy?

  • Does the stylist listen to your words, thoughts, fears, and worries?

  • Would you be comfortable having this person come to your home?

  • Is their fee fair for the level of expertise they bring to you?

  • Do they have positive client testimonials that you can relate to?

  • Are they willing to teach and show you – not just do it for you?

Are you ready to hire an expert to help you with your style? If the answer is yes, let’s discuss how I can help you solve your wardrobe problems. This is one list we can tackle together!
